Gastronomic festivals in Sicily

In Sicily it si wonderful to live in any time of year, because even in the winter months the temperature does not drop during the day below 10 degrees. It is of course a bit cool to swim, but here there are also many other interesting events. One of them is the Sagra – gastronomic festivals – where you can treat yourself to delicious local delicacies and assist to the colorful traditional festivals.
In September, the solar Sicily has several festivals. In early September, a festival of ice cream in Cefalu, where you can enjoy ice cream, made in the traditional Sicilian recipes, as well as the famous dessert of granita from traditional ingredients (lemon and orange juice, pistachios, almonds, coffee, mint), as well as seasonal berries – strawberries and mulberry. At the end of September in the beautiful seaside town of San Vito Lo Capo there is the couscous festival, where come chefs from all around the world. Here you can enjoy not only the most delicious couscous, cooked with fresh fish, but also many other dishes, including delicious pizzas to suit all tastes.
In Modica there is Chocobarocco – chocolate festival. The whole city center is transformed into a continuous feast for sweet lovers. Modica is the center of the chocolate in Sicily, where small factories for many centuries have been producing chocolate. In general, all is handmade which can be seen from the packaging.
In Ragusa is held the sagra of honey. This is the best opportunity to enjoy the amazing local honey and products made from it. Sicilian honey is recognized as one of the best in Italy.
Also at this time the whole of Sicily celebrates the festival of harvest of grapes and wine.
December and January are months of Christmas, so anywhere on the island are  held celebrations. One of the most beautiful is the Christmas festivities in the town of Caltagirone – a kaleidoscope of traditions, emotions, art, gastronomy and folklore, where you can get an unforgettable experience between magical narrow streets. The city is world famous for its ceramics, the first production of which is founded by the ancient Greeks. The capital of the province of Syracuse celebrates the Immacolata, when along the streets of the ancient city of ​​Ortigia, goes the procession, depicting scenes from the Bible.
In February, the season of pomegranates, kiwi, melons and mandarancho (a hybrid of tangerine with bitter orange) starts, and the whole island is literally covered with white blooming almond trees. There is the festival of Sagra nel Mandorlo in Agrigento dedicated to this magnificence, during which are also held children’s festival and the festival of folklore, as well as the historic costumed procession.
April is the month of Easter and Easter is always celebrated magnificently in the best tradition. In Ispica you can observe the traditional ceremony, reconstituted in accordance with biblical scenes of Christ’s resurrection.
Meanwhile in Cassibile is held the festival of strawberries, and in Bushemi the fest of ricotta, the famous Sicilian cheese curd. April days are usually very warm, the average daily temperature is 20 degrees, at night it is not below 8.10.
In May, the average daily temperature is 22-24 degrees, very comfortable, at night does not go below 12. You can already swim in the sea, the water temperature is about 20 degrees.
In the town of Pachino they celebrate inverdurata, a festival of seasonal vegetables. In the center of the city is created a mosaic composition on the basis of local vegetables. This is a great opportunity to learn more deeply the culinary traditions of the region.
In June, the season of strawberries, cherries, melons goes on and also is held an annual festival of cuttlefish in Donnalucata. Traditions of seafood dishes, sea, fun and appetite – it’s time to enjoy seafood.
August is rich with events in Sicily, as in the rest of Italy here is celebrated the famous Ferragosto, in Martsamemi is held Film Festival, and also the sagra of tuna, and in Pozzallo Fish Festival. The program includes tasting and gastronomic workshops.
